Coast Mountain Guide training

Mountaineering is as much about skill and preparation as it is about the adventure itself. Over four days in the Tantalus Range, I documented the Intro to Mountaineering course led by Coast Mountain Guides owner and lead guide, Guillaume Otis. This intensive training experience took us through high alpine terrain, exposed ridgelines, and endless glaciers, where every step was a lesson in technical rope work, navigation, and survival in extreme conditions. From early-morning ascents under glowing alpine light to summit pushes requiring endurance and precision, this gallery captures the raw reality of mountain guide training in one of Squamish’s most challenging and breathtaking landscapes.

Mountaineering photography demands an eye for both technical details and grand, sweeping landscapes. Capturing climbers roped up on a knife-edge ridge, ice axes striking into glacial blue ice, or the sheer scale of towering peaks—it’s all about telling the story of adventure, resilience, and skill in the backcountry. Each image showcases the balance between risk and reward, the intense focus required for technical maneuvers, and the moments of awe that make it all worthwhile.

Whether you’re a climber, guide, or someone who appreciates the untamed beauty of the mountains, this gallery offers a glimpse into the world of alpine exploration and the rigorous training that makes it possible.
